1.0    A Description of the CTABC as an Organization:
·         950 Teachers and Support Staff from 45 schools
·          Budget/Income of $130,000.00
·         Teacher membership is $160.00; Associate is $40.00
 
2.0    Board and Staff:
·         Currently an 8 member Board.
·         Office Secretary: Sheila Burkinshaw ( 10 hours per week)
·         Executive Director: Peter Van Huizen
 
3.0    Communication with Members:
·         www.christianteachers.ca
·         School Liaison: Each school has a CTABC representative who is the communication link with the staff.
·          A monthly Update.
 
4.0    Mission: "Promoting high standards of professional development and working conditions for Christian Educators."

6.0 Services Provided by the CTABC
 
6.1 Professional Employment Relations:
 
        Policies and Best Practice Guidelines:
  •  Code of Ethics document: adopted by CTABC Board as policy
  • Sexual Harassment Policy: Shared policy with SCSBC.
  • Teacher contracts: CTABC-CPABC-SCSBC policy recommendation
  • Maternity leave guidelines: CTABC-SCSBC-CPABC guidelines
  • Staff Reduction and Re-call Policy:

  • Early Retirement Policy:
  • Member Handbook describing all policies and resources is available to each CTABC member on the web-site.
 
 
       Compensation Committee (joint with SCSBC)
  • Provides policy and compensation recommendations to SCSBC-CTABC member schools
  • Current Compensation Report covers two school years: 2007-2009
  • New Report will be issued in January 2009
 
       Facilitation, Mediation and Arbitration 
  • Proper channels in which individuals and schools can reconcile their differences
 
       Federation of Independent School Associations
  • Maintains a close communication with FISA as it is the link with the provincial government and other independent schools.
 
       BC College of Teachers
·         director attends most College of Teacher’s public Board meetings
·         ensures issues relevant to CTABC are communicated to the College of Teachers Board and CTABC members.
 
Educational Leadership Council:
·         Director attends meetings to communicate matters relevant to standards and certification. University Colleges of Education and Council dialogue
 
       6.2 Professional Development:
 
       Convention Planning Committee
  • A joint committee of both Canadian and American teachers who organize the annual two day NWCSI-CTABC fall convention.
       Professional Development Day Committees
  •  Organize regional professional development days that deal with regional issues and concerns. Four Districts: Lower Mainland, Island, Interior and Northern Schools.
       Professional Development Resource 
  •  This valuable resource is available to every teacher. It contains five tools for growth, along with space to include records of professional development.
       SCSBC Board Relationship
  •  Communication, input and representation on SCSBC committees and board, serving Christian schools and teachers nationally and globally.
       Christian Schools Canada
  •  Communication, input and representation on CSC committees and board.
              6.3 Other Services
 
       CTABC Communications:
  • The Update: A monthly review of issues of interest to members
  • Christian Educators Journal:
  • Website: Set your favorites at www.christianteachers.ca
  • AGM meeting: Held annually at the October Convention.
           Bridging Cultures:
  • This is CTABC’s Cross Cultural professional support services arm which encourages teachers to consider service opportunities in Christian schools such as Honduras. Each summer we support five teachers as they serve sister schools in Honduras.
  • Our relationship with World Wide Christian Schools allows us through their “Walking Together Program” have teachers and schools partner with emerging Christian Schools in the Developing world. South African opportunities exist.
