Prayer Requests

November-December Prayer Items:

Praise for sixty years of Christian education offered by Vancouver Christian School. Many of those teachers and administraors planted seeds in the minds and hearts of students so that they became leaders of the schools that have opened and developed since.

On November 13th, Eric Rand, from the King's ChristianSchool (Salmon Arm) grade four classroom, passed away suddenly, in a car accident. Eric had attended Vernon Christian School previous to this school year. We pray for the families, staff and student body of each of these schools as they share in this loss, grief but also hope.

The economy continues to challenge many of our schools where lower enrolments and family incomes are stretched to the limit.

At this time there do not appear to be any serious health concerns for our members. If there are, please let the office know.

July-August Prayer Items:

Remember our 2009 Bridging Cultures Team who will be in Honduras from July 10 to August 1, 2009.

Pray for all of our members who continue to battle illness. A review of this year's prayer items reminds us that each of our schools confronts the fragility of life again and again.

June Prayer Items:

This is the time of year when a lot of energy goes into finishing off the school year. Let's pray for a good finish to the school year. Say good-bye to teachers who are leaving due to retirement, maternity leave or new opportunities. Pray as well for safety over the summer for all within our school communities.

This year over 13 teachers are retiring. The largest group ever. Faithful to the end of their teaching years. Well done and now new doors open for service. Once a teacher, always a teacher.

May 2009 Prayer Concerns

Anne Ferguson, Principal of John Knox Christian School, communicated great concerns over her husband Mark's recent illness. Apparently he has experienced an infection on his heart valve and this has made him very ill.

April 2009 Prayer Concerns

Thanksgiving that Peter and Jackie Van Huizen, Thea Ewald and Laurell Vlieg are back safely from South Africa. They participated in two Christian School conferences in Limpopo Province with Venda Christian School teachers.

February 2009 Prayer Concerns

Anne Helmus, wife of Pacific Christian School Principal Bill Helmus, is facing the prospect of more cancer treatment.

From Abbotsford Christian Elementary School:

Sandra Elgersma, has been diagnosed with cancer and is undergoing significant treatment.

Michelle Ekkert: Lost her brother-in-law to a fatal car accident.

December 2008 Prayer Concerns

Special Education Assistant Wynne Meerse from Langley Christian mourns the loss of her husband John. He succumbed to cancer over the Christmas holidays. May God grant Wynne and her two children strength and comfort to face the future.

On December 27, 2008 the husband of Anne Yeo, James passed away from Cancer. James had been struggling with Cancer for quite some time. Please remember Anne Yeo, teacher at Richmond Christian High School, in your prayers. May she and her children draw on the strength and comfort that God and his people provide for those who suffer.

This will be a difficult year economically for some of our parents and schools. Pray that Boards, Administration, staff, parents and a supportive community may work together to ensure that we may honour God in how we deal with each other.

Anne Helmus has had a recurrence of her cancer. Her husband, Bill, Principal of Pacific CES writes "You may remember that she had surgery for ovarian cancer in Sept.'06, and then 6 months of subsequent chemo treatments. Now it has recently moved aggressively into her lymph nodes, and she now has to endure another round, another six months, of chemo for this cancer of the lymphatic system. She had her first treatment May 7, and it went well. We covet your prayers and support over the coming months as she has to go through this all over again. This is happening a month before our son's wedding on June 27.

Frank DeVries, retired former Principal of Vancouver Christian School, wrote this "Gathering Song" for Teachers, and released it for our blessing in January 2010.

Servants of the Lord.

Verse 1: "As the servants of the Lord, living in the light of love, Here to lead and help and heal, motivation our ideal, Building homes with living stones, guiding in The Way, All across this glorious land take his children by the hand, Following the Lord's command to undertake with zeal, His wonders to reveal.

Verse 2: As the servants of the Lord, joyfully we seek to serve, Bring before the Lord in prayer those entrusted to our care, Model Christ in all we do, embolden and inspire. Give us wisdom Lord, and cheer, keep away all doubt and fear, Help us now another year to undertake with zeal, Your wonders to reveal."
