University Course Requirements after Completion of Christian Perspective Courses
TWU is in the process of enhancing its annual Summer Institute through the offering of 1 sm hr courses targeted to the needs/interests of practicing teachers. We have spent this year consulting with our Independent School Partners in face to face meetings and through surveys to determine these needs and interests. These courses will be offered on a pass/fail basis and will be taught by professors with specific research/practice expertise, as well as, teachers from the field who have completed a Master’s Degree and/or are considered experts in their area of teaching. Teachers taking these courses will apply their learning directly to their practice and all course requirements are completed during the one week timeframe. This year our Summer Institute includes 1 sm hr courses in Gender and Education; Technology and Education; Social Studies for the 21st Century; Early Childhood Education and New Trends in Math Education. Tuition cost is the same as indicated above.
TWU is very interested in hearing from you about needs and interests for future Summer Institute courses, as well as, possible instructors. We would really like our Summer Institute to be a place where your excellent teachers can develop their educational leadership and professional development skills. Please feel free to contact us at any time with topics, suggested additional modes of delivery and potential instructors.
Professional Learning Communities
Professional learning communities within and between schools are a rich mode of professional development and are now often a preferred mode. TWU Education Professors are willing to participate in these communities, sharing their research expertise and capacity and coming alongside professional learning communities as “critical friends”. These opportunities would benefit TWU Professors who are interested in continuing certain lines of research as part of their scholarly work, therefore, their participation would generally be voluntary.
