Bridging Cultures Honduran Project July 2009

Unfortunately due to political unrest the Honduran project for 2009 was cancelled. This was a huge disappointment for our team led by Heidi Kerssies and supported by Brenda Wind, Liz Freeman and Cheryl Becker. Michelle Ludwig of World Wide Christian school informs us to what hapened to the funds.

"The funds that were intended for your Bridging Cultures project came to $6,308 US and were forwarded to the Honduran schools. Two of the schools, the ones in Choluteca and Catacamas, have really been in financially dire straits, especially since the government radically increased the minimum wage earlier this year; therefore, it was decided to allocate $2,280 US to each of these schools to offset their operating expenses, particularly their teacher salaries. The remaining funds were distributed to the other 3 schools so they can purchase needed school supplies, as would normally have been done through Bridging Cultures. These funds, especially the operating funds for the Catacamas and Choluteca schools, are a wonderful boon and amazing blessing to these schools – something that was desperately needed, a need we didn’t anticipate being able to meet. We are so thankful for the fundraising efforts of you, your schools, CTABC, CPABC, SCSBC, and the BC schools affiliated with them that faithfully fundraise for these Honduran schools. Though the trip and project did not proceed as we had planned, our Lord used it for good – praise Him!

Also, we continue to receive updates about the situation in Honduras. As you are likely aware, the political situation is still far from settled or stabilized, though recent reports from people on the ground indicate that, for the most part, daily life in Honduras is relatively normal. Of course, they constantly live with the tension of the unresolved situation and all the local and international political maneuvering that this brings, so please continue to lift them up in prayer. If you would be interested in more specifics of what is and has been happening in Honduras, please contact me and I’ll email you more of the detailed material I have.

Thank you for all your work, concern and prayer for our brothers & sisters, teachers, students and parents in Honduras. Bridging Cultures has still brought them great blessing this year in spite of the circumstances and we pray that the Lord will continue to guide and protect them as they carry on in their ministry of Christian education there.

Thanks again!"
