Rationale for Teacher Professional Development:
The long term success of the Christian school movement is dependent to a large extent on the quality of Christian teaching. The defining difference between Christian Schools and other Public and Independent schools is the unique “faith based” perspective that undergirds the schools.
Christian schools associated with the CTABC and SCSBC family of schools value an education that is permeated with a Biblical World View. The starting point for these schools is the historical Jesus, God made Incarnate. Through Jesus Christ, humanity has the opportunity to be restored to God. Jesus, provides the prism through which the student engages the Old Testament and New Testament stories and teachings and from which the student is able to bring meaning to the culture and creation he or she may study. Christians have a 3500 year history that is recorded through the Bible and Church teachings to guide them as they explore the world of yesterday, today and tomorrow..
Teachers that are grounded in a curriculum and pedagogy that has its roots in a Biblical World-View, are those professionals Christian Schools should aspire to hire and train. If the CTABC could offer one gift to the Christian School movement, may it be this: To create a culture where teachers are eager to absorb the research and teachings of those Christian scholars and practitioners who have shown the way and are showing the way. As culture changes; teaching changes. When teaching changes, a sharpened world-view and discernment is called for.
Professional Development is a life long commitment for the Christian teacher. CTABC is committed to be part of the catalyst and the solution for providing quality, rigorous, relevant theories and practices that can shape the Christian teachers' world-view and teaching methods.
