Sample Christian School (Draft August 29, 2011)
Indefinite Contract
This contract is an agreement of employment between: John Doe, address, and the Sample Christian School Society, duly incorporated under the laws of the Province of BC., located at #12345 144th Ave., British Columbia. 123 ABC.
Date Indefinite Contract first offered: August 1, 2005 Status: Full Time Teacher
What is an Indefinite Contract? It is a legal document that assumes the employee has met all the performance criteria set by the school Society and has the trust and confidence of the Society to continue supporting its mission and vision. Generally a teacher, newly hired to the school community, gets an annual probationary contract, called a definite term contract, until such time as an indefinite contract is issued. An Indefinite contract assumes greater job security than a definite contract provided the teacher lives up to their obligations. It also assumes the teacher will fulfill the obligations for a full year of teaching and give administration written notice of change in contract status by April 1 of the school year. A reasonable request for a mid-year change in contract status (eg., maternity or paternity) requires one month notice.
The Teacher agrees to:
-
Provide quality Christian instruction to students, model ethical Christian leadership, be a team player and promote the mission and vision of the school society.
-
Carry out all assigned curricular, extra-curricular and societal duties and responsibilities as directed by Administration and School Policy.
-
Assumes responsibility for ongoing professional development
The School Society agrees to:
-
Establish and adhere to clearly understood staffing policies in which each teacher is treated with justice, compassion, fairness and equity.
-
Provide professional administration and clearly understood administrative protocols and policies so the teacher’s employment responsibilities are understood.
-
Provide adequate compensation (salaries, benefits, professional development).
The Administration agrees to:
-
Maintain timely verbal and written communication with the teacher in the event the contract is compromised, in need of revision or requires termination.
-
Provide formal, written performance evaluations every 4 years.
-
Ensures the teacher is aware of his or her duties and responsibilities.
